Welcome to Trans Air Systems' web site, home of the Flying Motorcycle Company™.
Trans Air Systems is a company dedicated to designing and producing advanced motor vehicle systems that are intended to take basic personal transportation to the next level of present day technological capabilities. To this end, we have designed our first Flying Motorcycle™. We believe this type of platform to be the most efficient design possible in that it allows for the best of both worlds. As a motorcycle, by definition it is more efficient than a car; and as a short-field aircraft, with great range and speed, it will efficiently take you anywhere you need to go, at a moment’s notice.
As an air vehicle platform that can also be driven on the highway, we have determined that a quiet, short-field capable, fully enclosed, highly automated, computerized, all-weather flying-motorcycle equipped with auto-pilot, GPS, “highway in the sky” navigation, synthetic vision, airborne traffic alert, the Internet, etc., will allow its user to have extremely safe, personal, de-centralized on-demand regional/rural flight service, with speeds of 200+ mph and a range of over 1,000 miles. Such a system capability is unprecedented in the history of personal transportation motor vehicles. Smaller, lighter, less sophisticated and less costly versions are possible, but presently are not the primary object of our immediate attention.
With the wings removed, the TAS-102 Flying Motorcycle™ is a street legal motorcycle that provides an enclosed structure for protecting the passengers from the elements. When on the ground in this configuration, the vehicle functions as would a small compact automobile.
When the wings are installed, you now have a serious flying machine with all the benefits and advantages that flight has to offer. At any given time, one may fly directly to and from one’s regional/rural destination of choice. With a Flying Motorcycle, you never need to use the overcrowded commercial airline hub and spoke system where you can only go to the limited locations served by the airlines; and at the time of their choosing, not yours. The need for a destination rental car is eliminated as well.
Because of the unique capabilities of the TAS-120 Flying Motorcycle, Trans Air Systems has been invited to participate in the NASA sponsored General Aviation Technology Challenge with its creation. The purpose of this cash prize competition is to push the state-of-the-art in general aviation. We are greatly honored to have been invited and eagerly look forward to participating.
Consequently, our prime objective at the moment is to complete the design, engineering and fabrication of the first full size concept demonstration prototype so that this vehicle may compete in the Personal Air Vehicle Centennial Challenge.
In addition, once vehicle certification is complete, it is our intention to make the TAS-102 Flying Motorcycle available for sale to the buying public in an expeditious manner.
